The u12s today moved into the last 32 of the Herts County Cup with a 14 – 0 win over Knebworth Youth Jaguars

Whilst Knebworth play in the top division of the Royston Crow League, they did not do themselves any justice in putting up little resistance to an Edgware team that today came out from the start to win a game of football.

Playing a new 4-3-1 formation, with the full backs pushing up into the midfield, allowed us to get the midfield attacking with a little more gusto. It was thus encouraging that after camping out in the opposition half for long periods, that our first goal came courtesy of Ben playing at full-back.

That goal was swiftly followed by further goals from Alex(2),  TJ(2), James and another from Ben to also complete his brace, taking the score to 7 – 0 at half-time

The second half saw much of the same with another 7 goals. TJ first completed his hat-trick, before Adam got on the score sheet, Buddy knocked in his brace and Alex picked up 3 more for good measure.

Whilst we have to put into context the fact that Knebworth did not pressurise us very much at all, we played some very neat passing football and had really solid performances all over the pitch. Ollie and Barsa were solid as ever at the back and I believe benefited form playing closer together in a 4-man defence. Ben was solid at full back throughout, getting forwards as we had hoped to link up play as did Buddy, Luke and TJ when they rotated through the right-back position.

All of the boys who played through the middle, Sammy, Alex, Adam in the first 20 minutes, TJ, Alex and Sammy in the second and a mix of James, Alex, Adam and Luke in the final 20, interacted really well together, and played some great through balls between then to create the goals we scored.  And then James played the front-line really well for 40 minutes, creating plenty of chances for both himself and the mid-fielders who were able to press forwards given the possession that we had …. and in the last 20 Buddy picked up from where James had left of as Knebworth heads dropped.

We will come up against better teams in the last 32, but a really good performance from the whole team today.
