Edgware u12 went out of the Challenge Cup with a battling performance against Croxley Green Panthers, being unfortunate not to come away with anything other than a 2-1 defeat

In what was another heavy pitch, there was little between the two sides in the first half but our starting midfield of Ben, Alex, Luke and TJ looked sprightly and with Sammy’s pace up front we did look threatening in the opening exchanges and it was indeed Edgware that took the lead after Luke broke up a Croxley attack, played a great ball out of midfield which allowed Alex to convert after about 12 minutes.

Croxley started to get more into the game in the second period of the first half albeit there was  little too much to concern us until some unfortunate decision making in defence gifted Croxley the ball on the edge of our 18 yard box which resulted in them equalising just a few minutes from the half-time break and actually left us with our backs to the wall for the final moments of that half.

The second half was not dissimilar but, as we have found out a little too often this season,  the odd mistake at the back can cost you dearly and this time as the ball got stuck in the mud, we struggled to clear the ball and the Croxley mid-field were alert enough to get forward in numbers and punish us with a goal taking the score to 2 – 1

The boys responded exactly as we would have wanted, and created numerous attacks in the remaining 15 minutes or so of the second half but just could not find a way to get the ball in the back of the net. Some of this football was exceptionally good given the conditions but as one or two of the boys got frustrated, so the decision making in front of goal suffered a little as well.

Several of the boys had very good games today and with little between them, man of the match was shared between Luke and TJ who both kept us solid in midfield and gave great service to the boys out wide and up-front.
