A tough opening game of the season saw us come out the wrong side of a 3 – 0 score line

The first half was a tough one playing up a deceptively steep slope but we did not make our lives easy by giving the ball away rather cheaply and not working hard enough to win it back

The two goals we conceded in the first half were both as a result of players getting the wrong side of their men and not picking up runners, which we know the boys can do better.

The second half was better, aided by the slope, and we did at least at times start to knock the ball around and threaten the Borehamwood goal. It was slightly cruel to lose a third goal, albeit to a strike that the boys could do nothing to stop.

Overall the boys need to remember that much of our success last season came not through the fact that we were better footballers than our opposition, but through sheer determination and hard-work.

We do need to get back to playing as a team, which includes players who don’t have the ball making space and giving the man on the ball options, rather than leaving them to their own devices.

We also need to up the accuracy of our passing and really get the boys passing the ball around again

All that said, their were some bright spots at times and we know we can only go in one direction from here.

Tonight’s man of the match was awarded to Ben, for making good use of the ball and giving Borehamwood a fairly torrid time when he moved into midfield in the second half.
