The ETFC Red’s played a home fixture against Harvesters North. After Trailing a goal in the first 5 minutes due to a poor clearance; the team stepped up the pressure and after winning a corner well struck by Elliot Scott, Jack Skinner (1) opened his scoring account by thrusting the ball into back of the net from just outside the box.
Our midfielders dominated significant spells in the first half, and a well-timed through ball by Louis Rosenberg to Jack Skinner (2) resulted in another fantastic goal.
As the half time whistle approached, our defence unusually allowed a lone striker to grab the opportunity to claw a goal back.
The second half was a test of physical strength and mental determination, with our boys not allowing themselves to be out-muscled. Louis Rosenberg and Tom Haworth made some significant effort in defence and some vital well timed tackles in midfield. We conceded a further goal; but our heads didn’t drop. The clock was ticking and with 10 minutes left we knew we would have to demonstrate something special to turn this score line around (quickly). Oli Bloom was todays play maker, with considerable effort down the right wing providing chance after to chance for Elliot and Jack. Jack finally broke through the defence and skilled the goal keeper to level up the score.
From watching the opposition slow the tempo and ‘park that bus’ to now being on the verge of either a draw or a defeat, our boys with the ‘go get them’ attitude delivered a superb display of footwork. Again, Oli Blooms one on one battles outsmarted the opposition’s midfielders from where he accurately crossed the ball to Jack Skinner (4) who secured the winner. At the final whistle we won 4-3 !
Man of the match was difficult this week; with Louis having decent spells in midfield, but Oli Bloom wins it for being ‘Mr Creativity’ and for unselfishly providing numerous chances for the forwards which ultimately won us the match.
