The u10 Reds played an away fixture against the London Lions Blue’s. There’s always an element of uncertainty when we play afternoon matches; but after some pre-match warm up and training drills followed by a stern team talk, the boys were pumped and raring to go.
The first half saw some decent passing around the midfield; and our creativity soon earned us a corner taken by Yash Patel (1) which curled at speed into the back of the net. Brayden Fifer made a significant save.
Midfielders George Wainright, Elliot Scott, Jack Skinner, Oli Bloom soon dominated possession for the majority of the half, but Lions certainly knew how to string together pass or two and a miscommunication in defence lead us to conceding a relatively simple goal just before half time.
The second half started and the boys played with such intent. Link up play between forwards Jack Skinner and Oli Bloom lead to Oli (1) netting a goal from just outside the box to restore our lead.
Midfielder Elliot Scott was on fire today scoring 2 goals in quick succession, one from very tight angle off the left flank which flew at real pace to beat the keeper.
In the dying minutes Tom Haworth and Louis Rosenberg together with help from Jack Skinner made some vital tackles in defence to keep the Lions goal level to a minimum. With the clock ticking, we were awarded a corner which was well struck by Elliot Scott and headed superbly by Dylan Berger into the top right of the net (1). Final score was 5-1 to the ETFC Reds.
Choosing man of the match was difficult today; all boys played their hearts out, but after much deliberation it went to Brayden Fifer for giving the team a real confidence boost with a vital save in the first half.
