Today, the u10 Red’s played a home fixture to the newly promoted Hadley Rangers. Another week with no subs, and no goalkeeper, this should have been a tough test. We reverted to a 2-2-2 formation with no holding midfielder; however George Wainright took the initiative to assume this role (when required) after lengthy spells in attack.
Our first goal came within minutes when the nervous Hadley defence failed to clear the ball from within the box, where Jack Skinner (1) dispossessed and beat the keeper. With a goal up; confidence was high, Oli Bloom and George Wainright made some great runs through the midfield but failed convert any chances.
Tom Haworth assumed the role of stand-in goalkeeper; the couple of shots fired at him were plucked out of the air with real confidence.
After winning a throw-in Jack Skinner (2) lobbed the keeper from near the half way line to secure the 2nd for the team.
Elliot Scott (1) made a run down the left flank, and with some neat footwork, skilled passed the keeper to give us nice cushion into half time.
The second half wasn’t too dissimilar to the first in terms of work rate and possession. Yash Patel and Dylan Berger tightened up the defence, and with the help of George Wainright cleared 2 corners. On the counter attack, George hit the woodwork after a decent cross by Oli Bloom. At the final whistle, we won the match 3-0 !
All boys put in a good shift. Man of the match was difficult today; George Wainright was superb as both an attacking and defending midfielder, but this was the week to reward this season’s top goal scorer Jack Skinner who week on week delivers what’s expected of him, and who is a real team player.
