Bishop’s Stortford Town 5 (3) v (3) 3 Edgware u13s

An 11 man Edgware u13 side were unlucky today to go out of the County Cup in the 2nd round with a 5 – 3 defeat away to Bishop’s Stortford, after drawing 3 – 3 in regulation time.

Edgware were twice ahead in the first half, first with a goal from Archie after 6 minutes which was cancelled out in the 12th minute, and then again in the 18th minute when Udo  lobbed the keeper to put us 2 – 1 up, only to be pegged back again when the ref awarded a penalty to Bishop’s Stortford with just a couple of minutes of the half remaining.

The second half was a tighter affair in which Bishop’s Stortford took the initiative going 3 -2 up in the 50th minute but the boys worked hard and Tami equalised with a shot that somehow found its way through a crowded Bishop’s Stortford box.

The first half of extra-time was fairly uneventful, but the 3nd brought two long range goals for Bishop’s Stortford which was always going to be too much for us to recover from.

If we threw any criticism at the boys today, then it would be that when in possession, we did not control the pace of the game and gave the ball away far too cheaply, but ultimately they can feel hard done by to have lost as the 4th Bishop’s Stortford goal that sealed our fate was arguably off-side  and the substitutions that we made in the last period of extra time, with the intention of bringing fresh legs onto the pitch, with hindsight undid them a bit as is took several of the boys that had been putting in great performances out of position and it was from those positions that the 4th goal stemmed.

Notable performances today were from Archie, Alex and Tobi with a really great performance from Luke in goal. Man of the match was awarded to Tobi
